is a Senior Lecturer in Transcultural Studies with a focus on Migration and Diaspora Cultural Studies in the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies. She is co-director of the Migration and Diaspora Cultural Studies Network (http://www.llc.manchester.ac.uk/research/centres/mdcsn/). She studied Sociology, Political Sciences and Romance Studies (Latin American, French and Francophone Studies) at the University of Frankfurt, Germany and Université Lumière II, Lyon, France and Universidad de Quito, Ecuador. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Frankfurt, Germany. She was Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Hamburg and Research Co-ordinator at the International Women’s University of Hanover. She has been a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Cultural Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and in the Feminist Research Centre in the University of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was a Humboldt Fellow at the Centre for Cultural Studies, Goldsmiths and is currently a Ford Associate at the Five College Women’s Studies Research Centre, Mount Holyoke, and Smith College, Northampton. Her research and publications are situated at the intersection of Critical Migration Studies, Transnational Cultural Studies, Gender, Queer and Postcolonial Studies. She has published extensively on subjectivity and processes of racialisation and gendering, postcolonial critique in Europe and transnational labour migration; poststructuralism and ethnography; governmentality and discourse analysis.
