I agree

Anna Nadotti

living in Turin, Italy.

After having taught Italian and history in the secondary school for almost twenty years, since 1988 I work as a translator, and since the early 90s as a publishing consultant, for Giulio Einaudi Editore (www.einaudi.it).

My specific consulting field are the contemporary literatures of the Indian subcontinent and its diasporas. Mostly in English.

I’m the translator & editor of the whole work of Amitav Ghosh and Anita Desai; I translated Satyajit Ray, Nayantara Sahgal, Vikram Chandra, Suketu Mehta; and I edited Mahasweta Devi: see my afterword to her collection of stories  La preda e altri racconti (translated from bengali by B. Moitra e F. Oddera, Einaudi 2004).

From the subcontinent to Great Britain: I’m the translator (four hands with Fausto Galuzzi) & editor of the whole work into Italian of Antonia S. Byatt.

I also translated Ruth Ozeki’s My year of Meats,  a really warning novel of the clear minded canadian-japanese writer.

If translation and Indian (better to say Bharat) culture and literature are today my main ambit of work, women writers and literature as a source of history have been – and they still are – one of my  fields of interest and researche. To it were due my many lectures and seminars: University of Turin; Unione Femminile-Libera Università delle Donne, Milano;  Centro di Documentazione delle Donne, Bologna; and others).

Some of my writings I’d like remembering here:
- Il lusso del ricordo, introduzione  all’autobiografia di Janet Frame, Un angelo alla  mia  tavola, Einaudi  1996.
- «Andate e ritorni dall’India (traduttrice per caso)», in S. Bassi, S. Bertacco, R. Bonicelli  (a cura di) In That Village of Open Doors. Le nuove letterature crocevia della cultura moderna, Cafoscarina, Venezia 2002.
- «Sognando Beckham», in AA VV,  Donne sullo schermo, Aiace Torino-Celid 2003.
- «Il punto di vista di Jo: uno sguardo sbieco su se stesse e il mondo», in AA VV,  Ragazze e ragazzi nel cinema contemporaneo, Aiace Torino, 2004.
- «Very softly, very musically, but definitely calling...», in Anna Nadotti (a cura di), Dedica ad Anita Desai ,  Pordenone Dedica 2006.

I’m on the editorial staff of the monthly review «L’Indice dei libri»; I write for the daily paper «il manifesto». In the past I’ve been contributor of the feminist magazines «Lapis» and «Leggendaria»; and of the cinema magazine «Garage»: (see my essay about Jane Campion films).

Collaborations with:
- «Fahreneit», cultural program of the national channel RadioTre.
- «Lo straniero», monthly review.
- Libera Università delle Donne - Milano.
- Scuola Holden - Torino.
- AIACE - Torino
