C’est précisément dans les banlieues françaises d’aujourd’hui que se concentrent les expériences de migration les plus diverses, qui révèlent, encore et encore, les héritages et les continuités d’une histoire coloniale. Néanmoins, le regard sur l’articulation de ces expériences – les langages des banlieues – se disperse trop souvent dans les fantasmes différents d’un certain déficit ou encore d’un surplus qui ne cesserait de s’obscurcir : alors que d’un côté on perçoit une détérioration de la sublime langue de la nation, de l’autre on se réfère à une diversité linguistique quasi-babylonienne qui pourrait aussi bien être une Babel des langues ; et alors que d’aucuns ne voient que violence muette dans les voitures qui brûlent, par exemple, d’autres entendent le cocorico d’une révolution à venir qui n’a pas encore trouvé son véritable slogan. Mais si le manque ou l’échec de traduction et d’articulation que supposent d’une certaine manière ces différentes constructions affectait avant tout le langage social et politique de ceux qui tentent de bannir les banlieues dans leurs propres projections (afin de les transformer à nouveau en « lieux de ban ») ? C’est sur cet arrière-fond que l’atelier et la programmation « Les langages des banlieues » tente d’ouvrir un espace d’échange et de réflexion qui s’appuie sur des pratiques langagières et sémiotiques concrètes à la fois dans la vie quotidienne et dans la production collective de textes, de musique et d’images. Il s’agit d’explorer l’inventivité et la créativité spécifique de ces pratiques et leurs manières respectives de distordre, d’hybrider et de traduire, ainsi que le sens qu’elles acquièrent dans la remise en question des représentations hégémoniques de « la banlieue ». Une attention particulière sera portée aux processus d’auto-organisation sociale ainsi qu’aux possibilités de représentation politique et d’action politique dans un contexte où les droits ne sont pas égaux pour tous. It is especially in today’s French Banlieues that the most diverse experiences of migration are condensed, revealing again and again the legacies and continuities of an ignored colonial history. However, views of the articulation of these experiences – the languages of the banlieues – all too often disperse into different fantasies of a certain deficit and a constantly self-obscuring surplus: while one side sees the sublime language of the nation deteriorating, the other sees a linguistic diversity of an almost Babylonian nature that, however, could also be a babel of languages; and whereas some, in view of burning cars for instance, see nothing but mute violence, others hear the crowing of a new revolution that has simply not yet found its true slogan. But what if the lack or failure of translation and articulation, which all these constructions in some way presume, first and foremost affects the social and political language of those who try to ban the banlieues in their own projections (only to turn them again into the “places of the ban”)? It is against this background that the workshop “The languages of the banlieues” tries to open a space of exchange and reflection that relies on concrete linguistic and semiotic practices both in everyday life and the collective production of texts, music and pictures. The goal is to explore the specific inventiveness and creativity of these practices and their respective forms of distorting, hybridising and translating, along with the meaning they acquire in countering the hegemonic representations of “the banlieue”. Special attention will be paid to processes of social (self-)organization as well as the possibilities of political representation and political action in a situation in which there are no equal rights for all. In den französischen Banlieues verdichten sich heute unterschiedlichste Erfahrungen der Migration, häufig vor dem Hintergrund geschichtlicher Kolonialverhältnisse, ihrer Hinterlassenschaften und Fortschreibungen. Allzu oft aber verfährt sich der Blick auf die Artikulationen dieser Erfahrungen – die Sprachen der Banlieues – in unterschiedlichen Phantasmen des Mangels sowie eines sich selbst undurchsichtig bleibenden Überschusses: Wo man einerseits die erhabene Sprache der Nation verkümmern sieht, wird andererseits auf eine gleichsam babylonische Sprachenvielfalt verwiesen, die aber eben auch Sprachengewirr sein könnte; und wo die einen, angesichts brennender Autos beispielsweise, nur stumme Gewalt erblicken, erklingt den anderen der Hahnenschrei künftiger Revolutionen, die bloß ihre wahren Losungen noch nicht gefunden haben. Was aber, wenn das Scheitern oder Ausbleiben von Übersetzung und Artikulation, das all diese Figuren in der einen oder anderen Weise unterstellen, zuallererst die soziale und politische Sprache jener beträfe, die die Banlieues in ihre eigenen Projektionen zu bannen versuchen (und damit erneut zu „Orten des Banns“ machen)? Der Workshop „Die Sprachen der Banlieues“ versucht vor diesem Hintergrund einen Raum für Austausch und Reflexion zu öffnen, der von konkreten Sprach- und Zeichenpraxen ausgeht, und zwar im Alltag wie auch in kollektiven Text-, Musik- und Bildproduktionen. Der spezifische Erfindungsreichtum dieser Praxen und die an sie geknüpften Formen der Brechung, Hybridisierung und Übersetzung sollen dabei ebenso untersucht werden wie ihre Bedeutung als Gegenartikulationen zu vorherrschenden Darstellungen „der Banlieue“. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt dabei nicht zuletzt Prozessen sozialer (Selbst-)Organisation sowie den Möglichkeiten politischer Repräsentation und politischen Handelns in einer Situation, in der nicht alle die gleichen Rechte haben.
